Startech Display Link For Mac Wont Work
The term 'ACTIVE' means it needs to be Power'd by something. Typical units might use a USB cable +5vdc or seperate Wall connected PS to the unit. The term 'Passive' means no Power connection is needed.
'Active' is typically used for stronger and longer cable sends. I always find better success using the last HDMI port of a TV when sending a 1080P signal to them. Thanks for the clarification. I thought the one I bought was active for some reason.
I'm not even sure if I need an active connection.not sure if my displayport is DP++ or not. I can't find that info anywhere. Just thought I would give it a try. I might order one online.
I upgraded my Macbook Air this morning to Yosemite 10.10 from Mavericks. Now, my Mac only recognizes one of my two external monitors. By this I mean that only one of my two external monitors appears in the Arrangement tab of the Display settings dialog box. This setup worked previously under Mavericks though the mouse motion was jerky on the USB monitor.
Is this a bug or does Yosemite not support 2 external monitors? The external monitor that works for Yosemite is connected through the DVI port. The one that no longer works is connected through a USB port via an HDMI to USB adapter. I've rebooted my Mac and the monitor several times and tried the second USB port on my Mac.

Startech Displaylink For Mac Won't Work Windows 10
Both monitors are Samsung though they are different models. Well - I solved my issue. It's unlikely my solution will help many others since it's pretty specific to my config but I'll post just in case. My issue, like others, was that upon upgrading to Yosemite one of my external monitors would not be recognized. It just 'wasn't there'.
After switching monitors and connection types (hdmi - dvi) I was able to isolate it to whatever was plugged in to USB-(dvi/hdmi) adapter just wasn't working. My adapter is a StarTech - DisplayLink USB 3.0 Dual Head Graphics unit. I contacted StarTech support to see if they had a solution but they were unresponsive. I searched drivers for DisplayLink 3.0 on their download site and found a Beta Mac version for Yosemite. Convert rmvb to mp4 for mac.
Displaylink For Mac
Loaded/installed it and my second (USB) monitor now works. There are a few minor issues but it's 99% functional and the things that are off are just small visual items that don't affect usability. In the same boat, responding hoping to bump attention here. Just bought a StarTech Thunderbolt dock to run a dual monitor setup off of my MacBook Air. I can get either monitor to work correctly on their own and can run one external monitor with the laptop monitor functioning, but it won't recognize two external monitors. I have two ViewSonic VX2703MH-LED monitors and have tried using the StarTech onboard HDMI, Apple Thunderbolt to HDMI adapters, StarTech Thunderbolt to HDMI adapters, Apple Thunderbolt to VGA adapters, and tarTech Thunderbolt to VGA adapters. No problem getting one monitor to work in any configuration, but it won't recognize the second monitor in any configuration.
